Day four of our fabulous ride along the Mississippi River. So far we've had some great days of cycling. Day 1: 68 miles. Day 2: 58 miles. Day 3: 69 miles. Day 4: 94.49 miles (yes, I'm including the.49 there as well.). We started off at the best (only) coffee shop in town: Natchez Coffee Company. Not only a full "southern-style" breakfast (grits DO go with everything), I got a soy latte that was wonderful.

While I was listening to a podcast, I took this pic with my iPhone. Working out and learning.yeah, that's like me. Your Best Just Got Better is more than just a book, it's a lifestyle. Sure, your best may not include this kind of learning and exercise, but you - at your best - DOES look like something. Something. What is it? Sometime today, take a picture.

People move. That was my ah-ha while sitting at Sternen-Grill, alongside Lake Zurich in Switzerland last summer. Me, my lunch, and an issue of The Economist magazine. [By the way: You must read this magazine; it's that important.] As I sat for a while, I watched people walk, skate, ride, tram and bus by. And I realized: We are designed to move. So, where do people move?

How do you end the day? Do you, yet, have a ritual you go back to that marks the end of a 24-hour cycle? Here's an idea: for the next 5 nights - that's all, just five - step outside at "about" sunset time.I joined a couple of dozen people at the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge to watch the falling of the sun on Saturday, September 28th, 2012. This, after having hiked more than 42 miles in less than 48 hours; we traversed the canyon - twice in two days!

It's a state of mind, really; are you an early-starter or a procrastinator? Here are some attributes of each kind of thinker: Early-starter: 1. Something big is about to happen, I need to finish "this" to have space (time and focus) for "that." 2. This opportunity showed up as a result of something I started focusing on a week ago (or a month, or a year).

Where The News Comes First Well, I'm a little bit early, and.ready to go on air! Today, @ 4 we are going to talk about "better" holidays. I loved the fact that the producer of the show sent me questions to think about. For this audience, she wrote, they're wondering how to get it all done: Family visits and work and travel and more. So, to get me thinking, I went for a little walk.

Back in 2008, I worked a few days in Anchorage and Soldotna, Alaska. The morning of our departure, Jodi and I spent a few hours in Homer; we were there in time to see the eagle feeding. (No longer happening.). Just today, while waiting for my flight from Zurich, Switzerland to JFK, New York City, I swiped through some photos on my iPhone. Check out that Bald Eagle in the middle.

I put it out to the community, and here were just a few responses. The ever-present nature of the Smart Device is only clarifying the need to utilize the tools even more. It's not enough to simply have one of these tools, it is more important than ever that we maximize their usage and utility. I said it on air earlier this year, and people are still talking about it: "Keep your BlackBerry out of bed.".

My brother called and said the words we all knew were coming." Mom passed away today. " . For the past 40 years, going back as far as I can remember, my grandma - my dad's mom - was always there looking after me (watching me.and sometimes worrying about me too). . We Called Her Mom Of all 8 grandkids, only my brother Nathan and I were the ones who called her Mom.

When are you at your best? I wonder how many people can answer that question with authority. Have you stopped to consider it for yourself? Have you taken time to evaluate the things you need to do, the ways you need to be, and the things you need to bring into your life to ensure you are functioning at your best? For example, I know that I am at my best when: I eat breakfast I prepare for meetings a day or two ahead of time I am able to finish something every day If you look closely at my list y

We have all heard it said a thousand times, “Practice makes … comfortable.”. Wait, did you think I was going somewhere else with that sentence? I believe there is sufficient evidence in both the world and in our own lives that practice does not make perfect. Repetition does not inevitably lead to perfection. You know it and I know it. There are some tasks that even with our most diligent practice, we can not perfect.

Making Your Best Better? I know, I know, things are good. I mean mostly good, right? You've got some work lined up next week, some projects your workin' on over the summer, maybe even a getaway (or full-on vacation) on the calendar. So, why focus on getting better? It seems natural to want tomorrow to be better than yesterday. Looking around, there's probably SOMEone you know who's lookin' to get better.

By about now - the third of 8 days of riding - I'd think that "most" of the work-thinking would have fallen away, by the side of the road, to pick up again later in May. Alas, I was wrong. At the end of a long - great, productive and even a little bit warm - week, it's apparent that "Focus" is one seriously valuable asset. How do you practice focusing? My triathlon coach taught to ALWAYS arrive early enough to races so that I could review the map and even ride/run some of the course. Over the years - through triathlon, to speaking, even to writing - this strategy of "seeing it before I see it" is significant.

Is your focus spread across things you're thinking about, projects your managing AND to-dos you're prioritizing? I call those the three "kinds" of work we all have to engage in during the day. One suggestion I make to clients is that they separate those and address them specifically as independent "pieces" of work through the day. It's easy, you can do this with three pieces of paper (or in a spreadsheet online).

When it’s time to get things done, how do you manage time? When it comes to super-sizing your productivity, there’s a distinct difference between “multi-tasking” and holding a focus-to-finish mindset. I’ve seen it on the trading floor, in the classroom, even on an airplane; when you focus on something until it’s done, it can be easier to get more things done!
