Show Notes

Chris, let our listeners know about you today.

A lot of it is done out of a passion for people. I want to see people reach their potential and beyond that.

One reason we started our business was because people weren’t living their dreams. We help people to live their dreams.

We help people recognize the gift they’ve been given. Then how to use it in the world.

How does being intentional impact the way we lead?

Any time you’re in a business organization or team, if you’re not valuing people they’re not going to work at a level that is needed. That takes intentionality. It takes you initiating that relationship and growth.

You have to make a decision to be intentional in developing those relationships. Intentional in sharing your vision and working with people. It works the same with family or business or anything you do.

Can you expand on the thought of family and business are intertwined?

There’s a thought process out there that says “My personal life is just that: Personal. They integrity that I carry in my business life has nothing to do with my personal life.”

The truth of the matter is that your personal life and business life should mirror each other if you want to be seen as an authentic leader. There’s a trust and integrity issue when you’re living life completely different in your personal life and it just doesn’t fly in this world today.

We’ve seen this in our youth ministry. We’ve found kids everywhere. If we’re not living our lives the same outside the church as we are in the church, they notice.

It doesn’t mean you bring your personal life and issues into work. But how we are as people have to come across the same.

How can a leader shift their mindset to become more intentional?

The first step is to develop themselves. Look at themselves and figure out what’s going on with themselves.

There’s some sort of limiting belief. Some sort of outside source speaking into why not to. A lot of times it’s just saying I’m not listening to what they say. I’m listening to what’s right.

It almost sounds like you have to become vulnerable to be intentional?

Yeah.. You’ve got to lay yourself out there at some point. You can’t be afraid to let people fail or you’re not where you’d like to be.

“Help me..” That question, that saying has changed so many lives.

Society has made us that way. We’ve accepted that we can’t accept to things.

Sometimes taking that intentional step is the hardest…

Absolutely it is. Sun Tzu says the journey of a million miles begins with a single step. Absolutely the first step is the hardest part.

What’s one thing a person can do to take their first step?

Choose to take the step. The first thing is a mindset. The mindset goes from I can’t do it to I must do it.

If you change I can’t to I must, it changes your mindset. It helps you find ways to do it.

What’s one book that’s impacted your leadership?

I don’t think there is just one. There’s a bunch.

One of the best books I’ve read is Intentional Living by John Maxwell. There’s one I’m reading right now called No Limits. The Bible is my number one go-to source as well.

Outliers and As A Man Thinketh were also mentioned.

If you had a chance to go back to your early 20’s, what’s one thing you wish you had known about leadership?

That it was a choice that I had. Back then, I believed you had born leaders or not. Now I realize all leaders are born. Everyone on earth has the potential to be a leader.

I wish I knew I was a leader and had the potential to be one.
