Cheryl and I attempted to implement grace parenting in our home. Our boys are now grown, but we are beginning to see some fruit from our methods and our heart is to help others learn from things we did wrong and things we did right. Grace parenting is one thing I believe we did right. Grace parenting attempts to raise children the way God parents us…by grace.

I previously posted this several years ago, before we were empty-nesters. I believe more in it today than I did then. Sadly, as someone who studies marriages, I see more and more marriages that are just going through the routines of marriage without really enjoying the journey. At the same time, I do know couples who have learned how to make their marriage work for the good of both spouses and are truly enjoying life together.

I have such a generous church. Every week someone sends me a note or an email to tell me they are praying for me. I routinely get encouragement when I need it most. Some of our closest friends are at Grace. I’m so thankful for the body of Christ called Grace Community Church. A question I receive often is, “Pastor, what can I do for you?

Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction , your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. “This is probably none of my business, but…&#. Do you ever hear that as a leader? Recently one of our staff had a question for me. He had observed that Cheryl and I sold our house and bought a condo downtown. He wondered if there was some hidden motive; like I was preparing to travel more, or perhaps become a full-time consultant and maybe even leave my role as pastor.

How is having a flexible schedule like owning a truck? Well, when I owned a truck…which I loved by the way…I found friends easily…that I didn’t even know I had…because everyone needs a truck at some point. When you have a flexible schedule…meaning you are not tied to certain hours of the day to complete your work…everyone assumes your time is available.
