I began volunteering in Haiti in 2007, and moved to Léogane in 2010 to begin my work with GOALS. This is especially true following the January 12, 2010 earthquake that killed 230,000-300,000 people. Parts of Haiti have achieved remarkable progress in their recovery since 2010. The more time I spend here, the less I know.

More and more I see companies defining “data” as purely quantitative, dismissing or minimizing, at their peril, the importance of the qualitative. After all, as the sociologist William Bruce Cameron said (guess Einstein didn’t *), “ Not everything that can be counted counts. Not everything that counts can be counted.”
