It was July of 2010, and I was playing a round of golf with my core management team in Billings, Montana. Our company had just been sold for a very nice profit for the investors. But reality had intervened, and we had to stop – and, on top of that, all the riders had to go their separate ways.

He was wearing a hat I had given him from my cable company, and telling everyone within earshot, with great pride, about his son’s business accomplishments. (He He was so good at holding court at this restaurant that after he passed away in 2010, they put a plaque honoring his memory at his usual seat at the counter).

For example, when I was SVP of Operations of Bresnan Communications from 2003-2010 and made hundreds and hundreds of speeches to rally our teammates in city after city in 4 Rocky Mountain states, I never made the same speech twice. Remind everyone of the founders and legacy of the company (“50 years in the business”).

But there was a point, and I don’t know exactly when it was, where I just HAD to keep sharing the revelations I was experiencing as a leader of 1,100 people at a cable TV company.
