Meg Whitman, 51, has been quoted saying a CEO should never stay with the same company for more than 10 years, because by that time the company needs a fresh outlook. She joined eBay in 1998 and now, 10 years later, she’s following her own advice and leaving the company she helped drive to online success.

NASDAQ: APPL ) has named Andrea Jung , CEO of Avon  (NYSE: AVP ), as the eigth member of its board of directors. Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, stated that Jung will bring a “new dimension&# to the company’s board. Andrea Jung is the first woman and the first Asian to hold a seat on Apple’s board.Â

However with the start of Bonnie Brooks in the role of CEO for the company things are looking up. In comparison people are paying up to 10-15% increase in 2010-2011. Brooks isn’t simply a CEO though, she is a food connoisseur and globe trotter who has helped turn around other ailing brands in the past. So how did she do it?

So here we are, it’s 2011… it seems like women have come along way from fighting for women’s right to vote, right? Percentage of female Fortune 500 CEOs: 2.4%. Well we have, and we haven’t…we have women running for president, women in congress, women in the Supreme Court.

HP announced Whitman’s appointment on September 22, 2011 but given the public comments, customers seem to think it’s a bad choice. It’s my stance that HP usually leaps before it looks and I am not sure that I am sold on Whitman as the new CEO. HP Has a Poor Track Record in Past CEO Selection. So let’s look.

In 2012, 18 of the Fortune 500 companies will have women CEOs at the helm. For example, for the first time ever, IBM chose a woman CEO, Virginia “Ginni” Rometty. Hewlett-Packard, another technology company, named Meg Whitman as their CEO in September 2011. India, for example, has more women CEOs than the US.
