I’ve reviewed hundreds of custom-designed leadership profiles. Typically, these documents describe leadership behaviors the organization desires, and include such important items as “helps people develop”, “values different opinion”, and “avoids playing favorites”. A whole lot of people who know how to suck up.

You know, someone who tells you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it? This style of leadership is based on the old model of “authoritative leader” in which the leader plays the role of “boss” and tells employees what to do and how to do it.
