This is more than a semantical issue – it’s become a systemic problem with many individuals and organizations. The mechanistic world of the industrial age continues to have a grip on our belief system. If efficiency starts diluting productivity rather than increasing it something is woefully amiss. Discipline requires a systemic approach. To make good decisions, we need to understand how the system works. The most productive leaders I know have the ability to be extremely nice, very civil and always polite while maintaining the ability to be direct, focused, and candid. It takes some work, but don't settle for anything less.
