When Will The Leader Emerge?

Tim Milburn

In my work with student leaders I’m often asked how one becomes a leader. My first response: Lead yourself first. That’s a given in each and every situation. Here are some of my ideas: A leader emerges when someone… · sees a need and meets it. · has an idea and implements it. · creates an activity and organizes it. · comes up with a plan and unleashes it. ·

Most People Don’t Know What They Want

Tim Milburn

I was standing in a long line at my local coffee shop. I love this place. If you looked up the word “hotspot” in the dictionary, you’d see a picture of it. Everyone in front of me was on their phone. Heads down, tapping away. I watched each of them step up to the counter, put down their phone and look at the barista. The barista greeted them politely and asked each of them the same, simple, much-anticipated question: What do you want?

The Deltas In Your Life Require Leadership

Tim Milburn

When I hear people talk about wanting to be engaged in meaningful work, they’ll typically say something along the lines of I want to do something that makes a difference. Self-Discipline Isn’t Multiple Choice

Tim Milburn

'If I’m going to take a test, I like to take multiple choice tests. That way I know the correct answer is there…somewhere. Even if I don’t know which one is correct, I can still guess. But self-discipline isn’t a multiple choice test. It’s a True / False test. I either have it or I don’t. I either do what I’m supposed to do or I don’t.

Self-Discipline Isn’t Automatic

Tim Milburn

'Miranda Lambert has a song out entitled, Automatic. You can watch the music video below. The chorus of her song seems really appropriate for this next post on self-discipline. It goes like this: Hey what ever happened to waiting your turn Doing it all by hand, ’cause when everything is handed to you It’s only worth as much as the time put in It all just seems so good the way we had it Back before everything became automatic.
