Leadership questions

Deep Imprints

This morning I am caught between two ideas, and I think I need your help. Yesterday I read an article that talked about the body language of leaders. Apparently, we have two areas of the face that we look at – a triangle with the eyes being the baseline and the forehead being the apex, and an inverted triangle that covers the rest of the face.

I Didn’t Sign Up For This Review, Part II

Deep Imprints

A couple weeks ago, I reviewed the first half of this book. Throughout the time I’ve been reading this book, I’ve been live-blogging it on my facebook feed. And, for four and 1/2 years, I’ve been whipping through the tumultuous turns of a detour of my own. I know the pain, the desperation, and the despair. Aaron does an excellent job of describing the situation, and he begins to show you how to survive a detour.

If you are paying attention, the world is changing

Deep Imprints

“If you are paying attention, the world is changing.” I emailed these words to myself about two weeks ago, and suddenly discovered them this morning. They might have been a quote, but I have a feeling that they were from a moment of epiphany. If you are paying attention. We are masters of distraction. It is easy to go through every day, doing the same thing as yesterday, floating through our existence.

Thank you – I’m not dead

Deep Imprints

Do you ever jump traditions? Lately I’ve been having a bit of fun with morning and evening prayers. This morning on the bus, I read morning prayers, and on the way home I read evening prayers. Now, from what I can tell, there are lots of morning and evening prayer manuals. The one I am using is free on Kindle. I was struck this morning by the simplicity of the prayer -. thank you that I am alive, that You saw me through the night.

My help to not be stupid

Central Oregon sunset. Morning prayers…as we look out over the day, what do you usually pray for? I find myself praying for events mostly…like my task list in the sky. “Lord, here are the things I think could go wrong today, please take care of details so they don’t.” This morning, my “morning prayers” (thanks to a prayer book from Kindle – which happens to be in old English…so it requires me to interpret) brought something new to mind. ̶

The Trouble with Power

Deep Imprints

Have you noticed that with great responsibility, there tends to be great power? In fact, when we have great responsibility, we find that we have a lot of things to deal with, and the short cut to getting it all done is to use our position to make sure others do as we need. It isn’t an evil thought…at least not for most – but it is a shortcut that makes sense at the moment – after all, we know we are supposed to build a team, right?

Why frustration is good

Deep Imprints

Yesterday, I found the most perfect diagram. It is in this book I’m reading: Launching a Leadership Revolution by Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward. According to this author, we are either heading toward dreams or mediocrity. Imagine a two-lane highway. When I learned to drive in Central Oregon, we had narrow roads (compared to the highways we drive on now).
