They say in some Midwest blizzards the wind took on a life of its own. As it whipped down from the Arctic, it swirled and howled, rising to a shriek that would go on for hours, even days. Sometimes, people would lose their minds – go plumb crazy – just from listening to the incessant cacophony. There are times in life when you can hear the shriek.

Surviving Winter

Appropriate to our snowy neighborhood, I’ve been reading a book by Lorraine Snelling about a hard midwest winter in the early- to mid-1800′s. As an aside, I really enjoy Lorraine’s writing. I am encouraged in my walk with God while reading fiction. After some analysis, I’ve decided that it is because Ms. Snelling writes God into her book – He talks to people.
