Living In Your Perfect Moment

I had the pleasure of talking to fellow coach Kevin Watson lsat year. We shared a delightful conversation about life and business. It truly was refreshing.

Through all we discussed, one point stuck out more than anything else. We talked about perfection.

Something he said really caught my attention. He had heard another speaker talk about perfection. He had heard this speaker say “I am perfect.”

This is a bold claim.

I rarely considered anything I did perfect up until my conversation with Kevin. Now, I’ve begun to think everything I do is perfect.

Living In Your Perfect Moment

Before you think I’m being prideful or thinking too highly of myself, I want you to know that I don’t. I don’t think so highly of myself. However, I have begun to think of myself differently.

I’m hoping this article will help you think differently as well.

Living a perfect moment… Becoming perfect… It’s not about doing everything right. Living perfect moments and becoming perfect comes from a mindset shift.

So often, we look back on our lives. We look at the speeches we give, the actions we take, or the words we say and think “Man, I screwed up… These things weren’t right.”

I can agree. Many times we do the wrong things or say the wrong things or speak incorrectly.

But… when we think about those moments. They are what they are. The moments are there. They cannot be changed.

Therefore, can we consider those moments perfect?

I think we can.

We can’t change what has been done. It is immovable. We can, therefore, look at those moments as perfect.

Isn’t that neat?

Rather than going back and beating yourself up over saying “Hello Bob” when you meant to say “Hello Barb” is pointless. You’ve said it. In the rest of eternity it is what you said.

The moment cannot be changed. It is seared into your history. There’s no correcting to be done. You can’t take back those words.

Therefore, it is a perfect moment. It is a moment that cannot be changed.

We may not like what our perfect moments or self look like. That’s fine. That’s perfectly acceptable.

However, we can look back on them and learn from them.

Making Your Imperfect Moments Perfect

By looking back and reflecting on our perfect moments, we can see what we need to do better going forward. Our perfect moments from the past may show you that you need to slow down when speaking in front of other people. You may learn you need to hold your tongue and not spout off. Or you may learn you spent too much time on the road and not with your family.

What can be done? You can look back at these moments and choose to change in the future. You can choose to say “I was perfect then, I am perfect now, and I am making better choices now.”

Where ever you land with this, know you can’t change the past. You can only change what you do going into the future.

Don’t beat yourself up over the mistakes you think you’ve made in the past. You can’t change them. They’re stuck in their perfect imperfectness.

Look back on them. Choose to do better this morning, tonight, or tomorrow.

You can use your perfect moments to make a perfect future.
