How To Improve Your Ability To See The Big Picture

Leading requires us to be able to see the big picture. This can be hard if we’re mired in the minutia of the daily grind. We can easily zoom in and lose the big picture.

What can we do to zoom out and see the big picture again? There are 3 things I want to encourage you to do today to help you see bigger than ever before.

How To Improve Your Ability To See The Big Picture

1. Talk to those outside of your inner circle:

The people in your inner circle are amazing. They’ve helped you get to where you are today. They may have even helped you see the big picture years ago.

Now, it’s the same kind of thinking over and over again. The ability to zoom out is no longer there.

Go outside of your inner circle. Talk to the office assistant, the person in manufacturing, or the youth student visiting for the first time.

These new voices will help you regain the idea of the big picture. They may even help you redefine what you want to do.

Don’t be afraid to talk to those outside of your inner circle.

2. Take a break:

We all get tired. We know this from the past year. Everything about it has brought us down, challenged us beyond what we thought we could handle, and taken a lot from us.

Find a way to take an extended vacation or sabbatical. Take a break and get away.

This is a time away just for you.

During this time, you focus on who you are, where you’re going, and why. This will help you regain the clarity and, maybe, see the big picture again.

I know after I am able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world, I find myself thinking more clearly. I know this will work for you as well.

3. Revisit your big picture:

You may have created your big vision 5, 10, or 15 years ago. Times change. More importantly, people and businesses change.

If you’re still thinking the big picture is what it once was, you need to revisit it.

Take a half day. Go over the reasoning of your big picture. See if those reasons still stand.

If they do, great. Keep the big picture. Maybe you update it or tweak it slightly but it works.

If they don’t, that’s okay too. Don’t be afraid to review it and drastically change the big picture. The new big picture will be more accurate and move you in the direction you’re wanting to go.

Doing these three things will help you improve your ability to see the big picture. Give it a try today.
