Being Still Doesn’t Mean Doing Nothing

Ron Edmondson

I hear people use this verse for the wrong application: Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”. I’ve heard well meaning people use it as an indicator that, because we are on the winning team, we will never face another battle. Not true. Here’s something you need to understand about this verse, before you try to live it.

One Thing All Leaders Have In Common

Ron Edmondson

I was talking with a pastor recently who had a hard decision to make. After much prayer and wise counsel, he was certain this decision would positively impact the church to continue the momentum God had granted them, but he also knew it was likely to be unpopular with some in the church. He anticipated kickback especially from a certain group, so he kept delaying the decision, even though he knew it was something he needed to do.

True Confession: I’m An Expert. So Are You!

It’s been an interesting week in the world of football. America watched as Peyton Manning chose to go to Denver, rather than Tennessee…or any other team. It was honestly disappointing, because I’m a Peyton fan, having watched him as a University of Tennessee player. I felt sorry though, thinking of what it meant for current Tennessee Titans quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck.

Take a Risk on People

Ron Edmondson

Pastor, take a risk on people. Jesus did. In fact, on the day He did, a few of His disciples, who were professional fishermen, had an unsuccessful day fishing. He recruited them on a day when they were being unproductive. Didn’t scare Jesus. He just managed for them to have the biggest catch they’d ever had. As a pastor, one of your chief jobs is to follow the example of Jesus…in everything you do.

Don’t Kill Meetings

Ron Edmondson

I hear people who want to do away with meetings… There are even books talking about the death of meetings… I know people who say meetings waste their time… I’ve been at meetings that waste my time… I say, however… DON’T KILL MEETINGS! Make meetings better! You may have to make the meetings more entertaining.

I Missed the Party, Because I’m an Introvert

Ron Edmondson

I was sitting in a restaurant at the Atlanta airport. The people around me were laughing, joking, story telling. Obviously, they had a layover like I had and decided to grab a bite to eat. In addition to filling their bellies with food, they found a way to make it fun. They appeared to have a great time talking about March Madness, politics and life.

Making Decisions from an Ivory Tower

Ron Edmondson

I watched it happen when I was in manufacturing. When decisions which affect the assembly line are made in the boardroom they seldom work and are always resented. The quality of work diminishes and production stalls. I watched it happen when I was in sales. When procedures are handed down as edicts, without including the input of salespeople, morale is damaged, which ultimately has a negative impact on sales.
