The Art of Leadership

Leading Blog

Max DePree popularized the idea that leadership is an art. So much of what a leader does cannot be objectively measured. To reduce leadership to a set of algorithms is to remove it from its context; to ignore the complexities, the contradictions, and the possibilities. Artists must deal with uncertainty, contradictions and diversity almost by definition.

Don’t Be “That Guy” as a Manager

Great Leadership By Dan

I’m noticing a lot of references to “that guy” these days. Maybe because I work at a college campus? There’s no shortage of that guy references, including references to all kinds of things you shouldn’t do in bars, on college campuses, in dating, in social media , in fantasy football , and on and on. That guy is usually described as basically full on himself, socially clueless, arrogant, a jerk, completely lacking self-awareness, and gets drunk a lot.

HP Headed to Hotel California?

Women on Business

HP has made some controversial decisions lately, but is Meg Whitman a great strategic move or the kiss of death for this once great tech company? HP announced Whitman’s appointment on September 22, 2011 but given the public comments, customers seem to think it’s a bad choice. It’s my stance that HP usually leaps before it looks and I am not sure that I am sold on Whitman as the new CEO.
