I read Bare Knuckle People Management - Creating Success with the Team your Have - Winners, Losers, Misfits and All by Sean O'Neil and John Kulisek. That management style has served me well. There is a good chapter near the end on "the first 30 days as a manager". This is a great book for first time managers.

I read a neat little book by Harvard Business Review that is just called Management Tips. It is divided into 3 sections - Managing Yourself, Managing Your Team and Managing Your Business. Lying on his back and kicking his feet and hands. It is tough. Each page is a short stand alone tip. There are about 200 tips.

I am blogging right now in a Starbucks - using a more substantial time chunk. It is externalized cost. The airlines/governments cost does not increase by having me wait. One problem with all the short snips of waits is they are too short to dig in and do anything. Short snips and standing in line is what I call and inconvenient waits.

Intuitively, I know limiting computer usage is good for time management. I have even read about this often in my reading on time management. Some time management systems suggest only doing email at specific intervals. Thursday I had a network glitch so had no computer for the first few hours. Again - high productivity.

It then quickly moves into 8 other short chapters focusing around one key manager trait. My favourite chapter is on managing distractions (this is almost time management or at least a part of it). "
