In most sports I’m aware of you cannot play if you don’t suit-up and show-up. Leadership is a participation sport and never works well in absentia. I really enjoy reading your blog. Show-up : You can’t make a difference if you don’t show-up. It requires zero talent to be present mentally and physically.

Leadership is a full-contact sport, and if you cannot address conflict in a healthy, productive fashion then you should not be in a leadership role. elliotross So well said Mike, I know for myself that managing conflict is not a 'natural' for me. If so, you likely have issues with conflict.

Real life is not a spectator sport – it’s a participation sport, and in fact, I submit to you that it’s a full contact participation sport. When black & white becomes permanently blurred so that everything reads as shades of grey, things can become dicey. I very much enjoyed this piece, thank you!
