Not everyone who makes these remarks is a friend:

• "Let it all hang out."
• "You're fine just the way you are."
• "Don't take guff from anyone."
• "Don't suffer fools gladly."
• "Those guys at the top get all the breaks."
• "If you got a promotion you'd no longer be one of us."
• "Slow down. You'll make the rest of us look bad."
• "Save your best performance for after you get promoted."
• "Don't even put in for that job. The selection is rigged."
• "Always make sure you get something in exchange."
• "You should keep score."
• "They wouldn't do that for you."
• "It's not a level playing field."
• "You should wait until you're ready."
• "Why take that class if they're not going to pay for it?"
• "You've got to climb over the bodies to get to the top."
• "Do unto others first so they can't do unto you."
• "Send them a nasty letter."
• "Sure you'll get experience but there's no pay increase."
• "Put down those books. Let's go get a beer."
