In other words, having a successor/succession plan. In none of the cases I mentioned, was there a successor or a succession plan. Failure to have a CEO succession plan is nothing short of dereliction of duty. Then look to the CEO, some of whom, fearing competition, don’t even want to deal with the notion of a succession plan.
