Respect is earned by honoring commitments and doing the right thing regardless of opinion, sentiment, or influence. The pastorate comes with a certain influence; even a certain power. Or in times of crisis. Here’s a principle to remember, that I have learned by experience: Leaders have to establish authority before they exhibit authority. Positional authority is what this pastor used. Not to be abused, but simply by expectation.
