10 Leadership Lessons And Quotes From The Intern

Joseph Lalonde

I loved the idea for the new Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro movie The Intern. In it, Hathaway’s company wanted to infuse old-school wisdom into their budding internet business. They do this by bringing in new interns. These interns aren’t what we normally think of when we think of an intern. Rather, these interns are older individuals looking to contribute to the success of a new company, About The Fit.

Mindful Mondays: What Any of Us Can Learn from Pope Francis

Next Level Blog

Like a lot of Americans, I spent a lot of last week transfixed by the coverage of Pope Francis’ trip to the United States. I’m not Catholic, but found myself moved by his words and images several times. The pictures were what really got me. The look of joy of people in the crowds as Francis passed by or moved to touch them was unadulterated. The happy grin of the Pope as he waved to the crowds out the back window of his Fiat as it left Andrews Air Force Base was priceless.

What happens when you have real conversation

Persuasive Powerhouse

You may not see the importance of authentic conversations at work. That’s understandable because you (think) they consume valuable time and you don’t get rewarded for talking with people. Meeting organizational goals, hiring, firing, managing performance and the boss may seem like the most significant things to do. These are vital, but think about it: none of these things get done without people and they all require conversation.

Are There Any Good Reasons to Take Subcontracting Work?

David A Fields

A consultant asked me the following question: Other than keeping my business afloat in lean times (what I think you call “bread & butter” business), are there any good reasons to take subcontracting work? Here is the answer I gave the consultant: There are at least three reasons to take sub-contracting gigs beyond their value as bread & butter: 1) to learn a valuable new skill that you’ll be able to leverage to grow your own practice; 2) to work on a marquee client that you can then publ

Profit Is Less About Good Management than You Think

Understanding Health Care’s Short-Termism Problem

Harvard Business Review

“Paying for value” is one of the most overused tropes in health care today. It is also the least well understood, because its meaning is manipulated by each stakeholder. To those who pay the bills — employers, health plans, and even the government — value often means paying as little as possible for services. To patients, many of whom do not pay the full price of the care that they receive, value often means better outcomes regardless of cost.
