What I Wish I Knew When I Started My Career (Part Two)

Lead Change Blog

In yesterday’s post , I shared eight things I know now, that I wish I had known when I had started my career. Today, I am sharing seven more: Be Interested in What’s Right, Not Who’s Right. I’ve seen too many talented people along the way focus their energy in all the wrong places, most commonly by obsessing over winning arguments. Intellectual Integrity is much more important than perceived Intellectual Prowess – which by the way is not automatically prescribed to the winner of an argument.

The Benchmark That Builds Consulting Businesses

David A Fields

Many readers know that I’m 6’1″ tall… if my posture is perfect, I think tall thoughts and I stand on two tins of homemade, coconut dream bars. Is that tall? Short? 4 Ways to Control Your Emotions in Tense Moments

Harvard Business Review

Twenty-three years ago, one of my employees — I’ll call him Dale — asked for a private meeting. Dale was serious and bookish and had very strong opinions. His work was fastidious. He rarely socialized with colleagues, but he was impeccable in his commitments to others. And he was skilled at his job. As I closed the door to our huddle room, he came straight to the point, “Joseph, I’d like to offer you some feedback.” I had expected a different agenda.

Why Leaders Are Still So Hesitant to Invest in New Business Models

Harvard Business Review

Despite the fact that executives could improve the value and performance of their companies by shifting capital from under-performing business units to better performing units, most choose to allocate their resources the same way year after year. What the Best Change Leaders Know, and Why They’re So Hard to Copy

Harvard Business Review

Of all the lessons I’ve learned about innovation and change, one stands above the rest: There is no such thing as an average or old-fashioned business, just average or old-fashioned ways to do business. The thrill of breakthrough creativity doesn’t just belong to upstart companies with the most radical technologies. It can be summoned in all sorts of industries and all walks of life, if leaders can reimagine what’s possible in their fields.
