How To Move a Team From Forming to High Performing in < 48 Hours

Let's Grow Leaders

Our MBA Orientation committee debated whether was this too much pressure. The second week on campus, teams of first year MBA students would have 48 hours to research and make recommendations on a real business challenge for a large, high-profile company and package and communicate their recommendation to a high-profile audience. Are You Stuck in a Rut? It’s Time to Adjust!

Marshall Goldsmith

Our lives don’t occur in a vacuum. They are usually the result of unappreciated triggers in our environment—the people and situations that lure us into behaving in a manner diametrically opposed to the colleague, partner, parent, or friend we imagine ourselves to be. These triggers are constant and relentless and omnipresent. You might think that triggers would cause you to act in new and novel ways, expanding your horizons, making you more successful with each passing moment.

“Honor the hands that harvest your crops” – thoughts for Labor Day

First Friday Book Synopsis

Could we have a discussion about people and their labor on Labor Day? I am biased. Langara Fishing trip

I am just back from a fishing holiday in Langara Island, Haida Gwaii - northern BC - so close you see Alaska. Lots of wildlife - bald eagles, seals, sea lions, killer whales, humpback whales, a bear, deer, puffins and all kinds of fish. Great weather (although it is north so still need a winter jacket). We Need A Labor Day – Frequently

Ron Edmondson

Games Can Make You a Better Strategist

Harvard Business Review

Play has long infused the language of business: we talk of players, moves, end games, play books and so on. And now we hear often about the “gamification” of work—using elements of competition, feedback and point scoring to better engage employees and even track performance. Even so, actual games are still taboo in most organizations—the stereotype of the work-avoiding employee cracking new high scores in Minesweeper has given gaming a bad name.
