Quote:
If you worry about who is going to get credit, you don’t get much work done. — Dorothy Height
Leadership is not about who gets the credit! It’s about getting the right thing done!
The late, largely unheralded Dorothy Height ought to know! She was a civil rights leader and a woman’s right activist. As a youth, she worked with Eleanor Roosevelt to plan and prepare a world youth conference. She was one of leaders of the civil rights movement and worked closely with Dr. King and others. She was a leader in the YWCA, chairwoman of the National Council of Negro Women, and the founder of the Women’s Center for Education and Career Advancement. Her accomplishments are much more than any fame that she got.
Dorothy teaches us that leadership really is about getting the right thing done–even if that means you will not be the person standing in the sun!
You can read much more on Dorothy on her biography page at the National Women’s History Museum.
