AI and the Future of Work with David Staley

Just Don’t Call Them Predictions

Is it possible to be a futurist who doesn’t make predictions?

I didn’t think so until I met an incredibly insightful individual who also surprised me when I learned he was both a futurist and a historian, too.

And, after you meet him, you can see that David J. Staley is a mixture of history, future, AI, technology, perspective, insight, and creativity.  Watching him present to an international audience was enjoyable because he could bounce to any subject, spar with any idea, and both scare and excite us about the future.

That’s why I wanted to talk more with him, engaging in a wide-ranging discussion about AI, the future of our work and jobs, machine learning, education, reading at scale, and even the reconstruction of Notre Dame (just after the horrible fire).

I hope you click above and watch our video interview. I’m sure you will walk away with a new perspective about the rapidly-changing future ahead.

David J. Staley is director of the Humanities Institute and an associate professor of history at The Ohio State University. He has authored Brain, Mind and Internet: A Deep History and Future, History and Future: Using Historical Thinking to Imagine the Future, and Alternative Universities.
