What’s in it for me is what’s in it for you

I talk to people all the time about what motivates them at work. The most common answer I hear is, “I like to help people.”

The human motivation to be of service is as natural as rain in Oregon this time of year. When we serve others, its gives us purpose and calls us to something bigger than ourselves.

Sure we work because we need to make a living, but there is more to living than paying the rent and buying groceries. Living is about finding satisfaction and even joy in our daily lives.

If you routinely interact with people it is easy to lose your sense of service when faced with all the details that need to be attended to at work. Yet, if you put yourself in your customer’s shoes — every time — you will find the sense of personal connection is very satisfying.   Read More....
