What Will Your New Normal Be After COVID-19?

Right now, we’re all experiencing a new normal. The world has been flipped upside down. The Coronavirus has ravaged countries across the planet.

It’s something I never thought I would see. People laid off for an extended amount of time due to a global pandemic. Businesses scrambling to figure out the best way to help their team members while staying afloat. Churches struggling to keep the lights on because giving has gone down.

Who would have thought?!?

Through all of this, a new normal for people has emerged. People are getting out to walk or ride bikes with their spouses and children. They’ve found time to make their yards clean and presentable. Honey-do lists are being completed at a record pace.

For me, this new normal has gone on for over three weeks. I’ve been under a shelter-at-home order in Michigan.

This has allowed me to create a new normal in my household. One where my working hours aren’t the same. And, can I be honest here, this new normal hasn’t been all that bad.

I’ve enjoyed more time with Pamela. I’ve enjoyed more time with Lok. And I’ve enjoyed being able to get around to the projects around the house.

It’s nice to have a slower pace of life, if for but a season.

I know the new normal will end. Businesses will open back up. Churches will open their doors once again for worshipers to enter in. It will be business as we remember it…

But what if I don’t want to go back to how it used to be? What if you don’t want to go back to how it used to be?

What Will Your New Normal Be?

We’ve got to ask ourselves the question above. We have to ask ourselves what our new normal will be…

Can we take back some of our time? Is there a way to be more productive at the office so we can work 30, 40, or 50 hours instead of 40, 50, or 60 hours? How can we make more time in our days for the housework and family time we’ve been able to enjoy during this strange, strange season?

These are questions we need to ask ourselves. We need to figure out what our new normal will be. We need to find out if there’s a way to make the last 3, 4, 5, or 6 weeks into something manageable where we can continue to enjoy our lives.

You may be able to make your current normal into your new normal by:

  • Creating a structure where you can work from home 1 day a week?
  • Taking a pay cut so you don’t have to work into the night?
  • Discovering a way to cut downtime at the office so you can have uptime in your house?

We don’t have to go back to the way things were. We can forge a new path. One where our lives matter. Where you can enjoy your life outside of the office.

Let’s find a way to find a bright side to the tragedy that is COVID-19.
