The Three Greatest Investments A Leader Can Make

Making money has always fascinated me. Even as I child, I would look for ways to earn extra money. It’s something that has caught my attention and never lost it.

Whether it was looking for ways to increase the number of customers I had on my paper route or how to invest in penny stocks and eventually big-boy stocks, making money has been on my mind. That’s not a bad thing. It’s also not a good thing either.

While I always desired to make more money, I never knew there were areas of my life I should be investing in that would show a greater return than the stock market or a business idea. Did you miss this as well?

As I’ve aged, I’ve begun to look at the areas of my life that have shown the greatest return for the investment I’ve placed into it. I noticed there were 3 areas my investments really paid off.

The Three Greatest Investments A Leader Can Make

So, what are the greatest investments a leader can make? I know you’re excited to discover these areas and begin investing in them yourself. It’s a good thing I’m not scared to share where a leader needs to invest, huh?

I believe leaders need to invest in the following three areas if they want to see a great return:

1. The first greatest investment a leader needs to make is in their mind and body:

Benjamin Franklin once said that if a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.

I like what Franklin had to say here. He’s saying that if you invest in your mind, no one can take away the investment you’ve made. It’s there and it’s constantly turning out a return.

I believe we can take this one step further. We not only need to invest in our minds, but we also need to invest in our bodies. We only get one body. We have to make sure to take care of it.

Make sure you’re investing in both your body and mind. These investments will return your investments over and over again.

2. The second greatest investment a leader needs to make is in their faith/church:

Many of you know I’m a believer in Christ. He’s set me free and he can set you free as well. I believe making the commitment to follow Christ is one of the biggest and best decisions anyone will ever make.

Choosing to follow Christ also requires an investment. You cannot simply say you believe in Christ and do nothing to show it. You are constantly investing in your faith and your church.

This can come through financial means such as your tithe and offerings or through donating your time and energy to help grow the church.

You also need to focus on yourself and your faith walk. This requires you to invest your time, energy, and money into studying the Bible and working on yourself. Don’t let yourself become weak in your faith because you stopped investing in your faith walk.

3. The third greatest investment a leader needs to make is in their family.

The last area every leader needs to invest in is in their family. You’ve made a commitment to your husband or wife. You’ve chosen to bring sons and daughters into the world. But are you investing in them?

Whatever you pour into your family will carry on through many generations. You can invest good, loving things into your family. Or you can choose to invest poorly.

Bad investments in your family could be:

  • Not being involved in the lives of your wife or children
  • Being verbally or physically abusive
  • Choosing work over family
  • Believing money will make up for your presence

Good investments in your family could be:

  • Carving out specific days and times to spend with your children
  • Knowing your presence is desired more than money
  • Speaking kindly to your wife
  • Providing spiritually, physically, and financially for your family

When you invest in the right things, you will see a return. Are you investing in the right things?

Question: Where are you investing in your life today? Do you believe you will see a good return from your investment? Let’s talk about this in the comments below.
