Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Time for Compassion and Generosity

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Coincidentally, on October 3rd, 14 years ago, my wife, Kathleen, had surgery to remove a fast-growing cancer from her breast. We were married a week later.

A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law had a similar procedure. My mother-in-law had breast cancer. One of my acquaintances died from breast cancer.

No doubt someone you care about has had breast cancer. If so, you know it's a serious piece of business. The surgery, plus the radiation and chemotherapy that typically follow it, are grueling. If the patient survives, it can take years for the body to recover. And the truth is, the body never does fully recover, even if the cancer is completely eradicated.

I urge you to watch this brief video. You'll be glad you did. It features an absolutely wonderful song. It moved me, and it will probably move you, too. I hope so. Because you should feel compassion for these women, and generosity of spirit. When someone asks for your support or participation - regardless of which month it is - I hope you give it.

The cancer was hard and treatment was hard but the reward has been sweet.

And giving back is the best of all.
