Sustained Success Requires Your Team to Be Coachable

Why should you BE COACHABLE?

I spent two decades in locker rooms coaching basketball before transitioning to share those lessons with leaders in other industries as a conference speaker and author.

And it was ALWAYS clear who the most talented athletes were at the beginning of our season.

In a similar way, you probably know who your TOP TALENT is right now.

But, surprisingly, those people were NOT ALWAYS the ones who were contributing the most to our success as a team when it mattered as we entered the playoffs at the end of our season.

And I’m guessing that you have seen that happen in your organization as well.

Because talent that doesn’t commit to BEING COACHABLE eventually becomes less productive.

Sometimes un-coachable talent becomes toxic.

And the people who truly make a difference – the ones who lead the team to improved performance and results – are committed to growth…

Winners over time – those who have sustained success – choose to BE COACHABLE.

That means two things:

They want to GET BETTER, and they are WILLING TO CHANGE.

The “willing to change” part of that equation is the most important.

Because we all want to be better…

But we are NOT always interested in appreciating, accepting, and applying the advice or feedback from others that would ALLOW us to improve.

Sometimes we get complacent.

So as a change management speaker, the most valuable impact I have on audiences is in helping to walk them through the same shift in awareness that ANYONE must go through in order to grow.

That starts with getting clarity about four powerful questions.
