Late Night Culprit

Nighttime and in bed. I was tired and had taken medicine. In accordance with standard practice, I was reading and for some reason, tired as I was, I could not fall asleep.

At first I thought it might be the medicine but the reason was right in front of me. One of my own rules was being violated.

I was reading a business book.

It was a very good book but that was the problem. So many ideas were being generated, so many points I wanted to remember, that my mind was not being put to rest.

A quick switch to some fiction (not a thriller) and sleep came rapidly.

Lesson: Follow your own rules.

[I've long regretted not keeping a college book: "The Study of Comparative Government" by Roy C. Macridis. It was the best sleep aid I've ever encountered.]
