Work and home environments are different, and you can have two different sets of behaviors in the different environments. That may be the same for you.

Your DISC style might indicate what work environments you prefer. If your natural DISC style makes a situation or environment uncomfortable for you over time, it's best to either avoid the situation entirely or to enter it openly and honestly so that you can work with other people on the team to find a way to thrive in the environment.

Frankly, the nuclear navy is a pretty rigid environment. And, even in that environment, I had some flexibility. As an engineering officer on a submarine, I used to start, run, and shutdown nuclear reactors. As a junior officer, I did not get much leeway in how I did things.

If you write messages of any kind – letters, emails , texts, or social media updates – remember that the person reading your words will likely not read your words in the same environment where you wrote them. Always consider the reader’s environment in your message.

When I hear this question or some variation of it, at least two things immediately come to my mind: Different environments call for different behaviors. So, you tend to adjust your behaviors to your environment. This difference does not necessarily imply that you become a different person in those environments.
