The Goal

The insecure can be egotistical. The incompetent can be arrogant. The ignorant can be boastful and the cruel can be kind. When evaluating people, don't assume that one characteristic rules out what seem to be inconsistent or opposite characteristics or that a lapse represents a conversion. The predictable nature of the noble person and the thorough scoundrel can make their cases easy to label but most of us fall in-between those poles. We can be generous one moment and selfish hogs three hours later; heroes on Monday and cowards on Tuesday.

What is a great goal? To be predictably good, regardless of challenges, desires, doubts, and convenience. It can be achieved but mindfulness and courage are required.
