Let’s call using coaching skills “short term pain for long term gain”. The great news is that if you are dedicated to it, and spend the time it takes there are some wonderful long term benefits for you and your employees. Like a lot of things in life and in leadership, coaching others well isn’t easy and it isn’t quick.

Perseverance is the act of persisting despite forces that keep you from achieving your goal. Your ability to persevere, to be that shining light who leads others through the swamp may be the only thing that will make the goal possible. Probably it would be hard for those born with short temper. I’m working on it.

She made sure her staff knew her expectations in terms of the work outcomes. My guess is that she would have accomplished her goal and engaged the hearts & minds of her employees at the same time. It took some time and excellent communication skills to make sure the team was on board with what she expected from them.
