Intuitively, I know limiting computer usage is good for time management. I have even read about this often in my reading on time management. Some time management systems suggest only doing email at specific intervals. Thursday I had a network glitch so had no computer for the first few hours. Again - high productivity.

Where the system has flaws and things required to make it effective: 1 - All other time management systems (including the ones I write about in my time management book ) use a priority system. I have been traveling a lot lately and have been highly frustrated with the process (so you know I was not flying private). It starts with driving to the airport. Indeterminate traffic/drive. Wasted 25 minutes for traffic. Then navigating the maze to find parking. Then line after line. 20 to 30 minutes depending on the time of day.

I hurt my knee running the first day but did manage a 5 mile hike in the Atlas Mountains. So I use an email management technique to ease my email stress. My new See Do Time Management System where I just do something when I see it works well on tidying and cleaning but is actually less efficient in many cases. The See Do system is sort of like the time management trick "always leave a room just a bit neater/cleaner than when you arrived". Often I find my mind racing.

The irony is "management" often gets in the way by over-controlling. Good management is about high standards, fairness and autonomy. The big 3 motivators - Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. This is what is needed for enduring motivation. Autonomy is about self direction. Autonomy over time, tasks, team, and technique (how you do the job).
