Waiting for the Light to Change

Don't Wait for the Green Light

Are you waiting for permission to proceed?

Traffic signals organize and coordinate the flow of traffic. They keep things safe and orderly. We wait for the green light to proceed.

Organizations have managers and supervisors. They direct the traffic too. Most people wait to be told what to do, then do it.

But leaders don’t wait.

A leader is someone who improves the lives of others. You don’t need permission to do that.

Leaders know it’s always OK to proceed to offer a kind word, praise positive performance, or go the extra mile.

Leaders know there’s no traffic jam of too many people offering encouragement, doing a little bit extra for someone on the team, or taking up the slack when someone is having a tough time.

The more you help people, the more they will look to you for signals, and the larger your circle of influence will grow.

Obey the traffic lights for the lane you are in. But don’t wait for the green light to become a positive influence on others.

The light is already green.
