When Politics Ruins Excuses

The nature of some political scandals is that they forever taint excuses which might otherwise sound innocent. Some examples:
  • "I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail."
  • "My blue dress had to go to the dry cleaners."
  • "We rented a boat named 'Monkey Business.'"
  • "I accidentally erased part of the tape when I answered the phone."
