Blogging Feels Like Hard Work

Those looking for blogging advice are often told that they need to blog consistently. You need to create a blogging schedule and stick to the schedule.

So, you dutifully go about creating content on a regular basis. You feel great. Until you hit the point where blogging feels like work. Hard work, at that.

Anything worthwhile is hard work

I know. Because I’ve been there. And I’m there right now.

There are days I don’t feel like creating blog content. I don’t want to sit in front of my computer.

Yet I do this anyways. I sit down to write a blog post.

Why I Blog

There are many reasons to blog.

You may want to blog:

To help people become a better leader

To share what you know with others who are a few steps behind you

To have fun

To turn a profit

To become famous

To stay anonymous (you can stay anonymous blogging if you want)

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to blog. Many more than I listed.

We all have our reasons.

But, why do I blog? I blog because I want to help people.

I want people to see their value. I want people to realize leadership doesn’t have to be ho-hum. I want people to be excited about leadership.

Sometimes, though, blogging isn’t fun. Blogging is hard work.

Blogging Should Feel Like Hard Work

There may be some pushback for my idea that blogging should feel like hard work. Blogging is supposed to be fun, isn’t it?

Yes… And no.

Like a lot of things in our lives, they have two sides.

I love to ice climb. Climbing frozen waterfalls is a lot of fun. Ice climbing is also a lot of hard work.

I can say running is hard working or, at times, loving my wife is hard work (the fault lies on me, right?), loving God can be hard work, or a plethora of other activities we enjoy can feel tough and draining.

We have to come to terms that there are two sides to the things we love. The easy side where life everything is smooth as butter. But then there’s the side where we struggle to make things work.

The truth is, anything worth doing will feel like hard work at some point.

Be okay with that. Be okay with the fact the things we love take work.
