The situation is too fast-moving, fluid and unprecedented for any of us to settle in for whatever the long haul is and keep on truckin’ with the same operating rhythm we’ve used up until now. For years, I’ve been a big proponent of identifying and following through on your optimal operating rhythm. Mine, at least, was like that.

I like to think of it in terms of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. You probably remember Maslow from your high school psychology class. With social needs met, a person would be motivated to meet esteem needs which come with developing the skills that lead to honor and recognition. What does that mean?

Higher order needs embody our desires to lead purpose-driven lives, achieve mastery and operate autonomously. Motivation/Hygiene Theory (Herzberg, 1966).
