As we near the end of Pride month, there is no better time to listen to the voices and experiences from the LGBTQIA+ community. While progress has been made, there is still a way to go with ensuring that workplaces are making the changes needed to become safe and inclusive spaces for people of all sexualities and genders.

Listening to the community

When looking at making changes, it is important to make sure that they are conducive to genuine progress, rather than leaning towards performativity or “rainbow-washing”. Listening to the experiences and perspectives of LGBTQIA+ employees is key to understanding which areas require adjustments and action. 

A recent survey from Jeremy’s company, Explore Startups, has highlighted some of the workplace changes desired by the LGBTQIA+ community themselves: more comprehensive policies, more representation and more training opportunities are what they’d most like to see from workplaces.
