SSA tightens recovery rules for Social Security overpayments in 2025

As of March 10, 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced a shift in its approach to Social Security overpayments recovery. The SSA is now reversing previous leniency and launching what many are calling a Social Security overpayments crackdown. Starting March 27, 2025, the SSA will begin withholding 100% of monthly benefits in order to recover overpayments.
