It Takes “Distraction-Free Concentration” to do Deep Work – Quite a Challenge in this new Era

Well, wouldn’t this be nice?…

In this book I’m interested in Carl Jung’s commitment to the following skill, which almost certainly played a key role in his accomplishments:
Deep Work: Professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate.
Deep work is necessary to wring every last drop of value out of your current intellectual capacity.

You know about that road paved with good intentions, don’t you?

It’s Monday morning, and I sat at my computer to write a blot post, and then tackle my handout for this Friday’s First Friday Book Synopsis. I have already had two phone calls, two “must answer now” e-mails… You get the picture.

In Deep Work, Mr. Newport describes the “get away from potential distractions” requirement for doing such deep work.

So, I’m about to post this, and close my e-mail, and hope that there will be no phone calls for a while, and get to work.

It’s not as easy as it used to be…
