What Old Ways and Old Practices Do You Need to Dispose of? – A business-arena challenge prompted by the life-changing art of tidying-up

TidyingUp CoverI’m slowly reading the life-changing magic of tidying up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing by marie kondo. (The author puts everything in lower case, including her name – except for the word “Japanese.” Maybe to make it all look more tidy).

I’m not actually tidying up yet – I’m just reading it slowly. But, I am thinking about it…

The book is quite the thing – a best seller, lingering on the best-seller lists.

Here’s what she says: get rid of everything that does not give you joy.

It sounds so easy – and so excrutiatingly difficult.

The book is filled with memorable thoughts, like:

“People cannot change their habits without first changing their way of thinking.” – Yep
and
“You will never get your house in order if you only clean up half-heartedly.” – Yep again.
and
“Tidying in the end is just a physical act. The work involved can be broadly divided into two kinds: deciding whether or not to dispose of something and deciding where to put it.”

As I do with practically everything I read and watch these days, I see so many business-arena implications. Like this:

What old ways and old activities and old approaches do we need to dispose of in our work place?

My guess is you’ve got some disposing to take care of. I know I do.
