Weekend Update: 8/30/2021 to 9/3/2021
This weekend I’m thinking about the relationship between engagement and intervention. A leader who intervenes too frequently lowers the engagement of the team. People are usually glad to let a leader answer their questions and solve their problems – instead of developing their own.
Disconnected leaders send the message that others aren’t important. People who feel they don’t matter tend to disengage. Two suggestions:
- Intervene with competent team members to facilitate solution-finding.
- Get involved with low-performers more actively, but don’t do their job.
