In natural leadership, personality plays a primary role. In spiritual leadership, the Holy Spirit within each of us takes the natural qualities of personality and infuses them with spiritual qualities.
While many aspects of natural leadership are similar to spiritual leadership, there are some that are diametrically opposed. The spiritual qualifications of leadership that are stated or strongly implied can be grouped under the headings of attitude, moral, mental and social life, motives and experience. The list of qualifications below is not meant to be all inclusive, but suggestive of what to look for in spirit-controlled leadership:
Attitude: gentle, humble, exemplary
Moral: purity, temperate
Mental: prudent, respectable, able to teach
Social: above reproach, good reputation
Motive: loves to serve, hospitable
Experience: mature, dignity
The list of qualities is a yardstick against which we must continuously measure our inner and outer leadership life and daily be conformed to our life signature.
You might ask yourself: Which of the list of spiritual leadership qualifications do you have well under control? At which ones do you excel? Which ones do you need to work on as a leader?
