I’ve had to tackle a few health concerns lately (nothing too serious – but a little disconcerting). One of the new “requirements” from my doctor is to monitor my blood sugar and blood pressure daily. And, as part of this, I have needed to get a real handle on just what I eat every day. I’ve lost some weight, and seriously cut back (have not defeated!) on my addiction to ice cream.
But in the process, I have become addicted to something else – three apps on my iPhone. They are GOMEALS , to keep track of all of my eating (calories; carbs… all the key numbers); Blood Sugar Tracker by healthycloud for blood sugar, and BP Tracker by healthycloud for blood pressure.
All of these apps are free, and easy to use. Admittedly, it takes a little work to learn how to use GOMEALS effectively, but the app comes loaded with a pretty hefty list of foods already entered to just click and record. The other two, the healthycloud apps, are incredibly easy to use, and with a swipe of the hand, you can record your numbers, and then e-mail yourself, or your doctor, all of the archived readings in a very readable table format, for a full 12 months of entries. Log keeping made easy! – it really is a useful tool, and I spend about 30 seconds a day on each of these two apps.
Now, why am I writing about this on a blog focused on business? A few reasons. First, these are great examples of “find a need and fill it” business ideas (although I have no idea how they make their money).
Next, as I have learned to use these, I am slowly learning just how little I have used the technology out there. What other apps could I be using to do more, record more, get more done? I suspect there are many. So, maybe it is time to get serious about researching genuinely useful apps. (Yes, I already have a couple of great games…)
Anybody got any suggestions for your favorite, most useful apps? Please leave a comment – I’d like to know.
