So to use a sports analogy, I ask you to consider the mindset of 2-14 coaches Jim Caldwell of the Colts and Hue Jackson of the Raiders as they neared the end of the 2011 NFL season. Now compare that mentality to that of the 49er’s Jim Harbaugh or the Packer’s Mike McCarthy. Harbaugh and McCarthy were having great seasons.

He is struggling to understand why it is that HR is not considered a core function of a an organization like sales, marketing, or operations when it is afforded the opportunity to "direct, deliver, and develop" the employee talent necessary for the company to achieve its goals. Why? Why?

Blogs are of course just one of many ways that leaders can learn, but they are a great one! This wasn’t something several of our nominees wanted to do (which is of course, perfectly fine), therefore excluding them from the final list (And yes, there were women on that list). Of course not! Could a much broader list be developed?

My wife worked with her in 1999 and back in January 2000, Nancy agreed to talk with totally stuck me even though I wasn't in her target market.
