Professor Cathy Davidson of Duke, in a 2011 HBR interview, defined the maximum length of uninterrupted human concentration as 20 minutes, before we need some break, whether to space out check our email. The oxymoronic concept of being physically present but mentally absent on the job has been dubbed "presenteeism."
