Greenspan had a long career as a private economic analyst and forecaster behind him when he was appointed Federal Reserve chairman in 1987. For a guy frequently associated intellectually with his late friend and mentor Ayn Rand, he sure quotes John Maynard Keynes (mainly the famous phrase “animal spirits”) a lot. We called them booms.
