Greenspan had a long career as a private economic analyst and forecaster behind him when he was appointed Federal Reserve chairman in 1987. And we were aware of it. If everyone were wholly rational in their long-term self-interest, there would be no political biases. Why Fed chairmen can’t do research. We called them booms.
